This one almost did not make the collection because in it I see so many flaws and messy bits. BUT, true to it's waning moon slice, it was important for me to present something that represents the journey I've been taking as an artist these past few years. When we create, it's not always pretty, it's not always perfect, it's not always marketable. But that is exactly what I appreciate most about this piece - it's imperfection.
In order to make space for new, we must rid ourselves of the old ideas of the past, our old modes of thinking and our old understandings of what we thought was beautiful, marketable, valuable. Where I used to see no value, I now trace the many paths and circuitous routes of my own journey through motherhood, womanhood and teacher-hood...because there've been a few 'hoods!
