Stairway to the Stars

Once upon a time, when I was a pre-teen, I discovered the powerhouse Ella Fitzgerald. Her version of “Stairway to the Stars” has entranced me ever since, and the similarly incredible versions by Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington leads me to believe that the song itself steals a little bit of the artist who sings it. 

She’s gold rimmed and hidden, just like that stairway to the stars I suppose. And appropriately, like we all feel from time to time, behind that flowery exterior lay a beautiful and perhaps beautifully misunderstood face. 

This one is different - brighter, yet heavier in ways I cannot describe. Which is perhaps why she’s adorned with twine instead of a wire on the backside. 

I hope she brings beauty and color to your space because she’s certainly brought it to mine. 

Mixed media collage, 3-D and all that jazz, with a layer of paint and acrylic markers for good measure. Fully varnished and set with a wire to hang - she’s ready to sit on your wall, welcoming in spring or even a long-awaited trip inward.
